Они массивны и сильно разогреты, поэтому их и называют «горячие юпитеры». Но почему так вышло, что в нашей системе все наоборот: каменистые миры находятся ближе к звезде, а газовые — на приличном расстоянии? Почему в других системах часто можно встретить суперземли, а в нашей их и близко нет?

Directed by Greg Kohs and with an original score by Academy Award nominee Hauschka, AlphaGo chronicles a journey from the halls of Oxford, through the backstreets of Bordeaux, past the coding terminals of DeepMind in London, and ultimately, to the seven-day tournament in Seoul. Vor 1.300 Jahren ist der Osten des heutigen Deutschlands zwischen Elbe und Oder fast menschenleer. Doch dann betreten Fremde aus dem Osten, Slawen, das fruchtbare Land. Sie lassen sich im 7. Jahrhundert nach Christus nieder. Wer war dieses Volk, das überall in Ost- und Süd-Europa Spuren hinterließ?

Sie zählen später zu den letzten Heiden in der Mitte Europas und haben eine bis heute geheimnisvolle Geschichte, in der viele Fragen offen sind und viel Raum für Sagen und Mythen bleibt. Sie verteidigen sich gegen mächtige Gegner und prägen das Mittelalter zwischen Elbe und Oder mit ihrer ländlichen Kultur und ihrem Glauben an Naturgötter. Es sind keine Könige und Kaiser, sondern Bauern und Handwerker; sie gründen nie einen eigenen Staat und haben dennoch die heutigen Nationen entscheidend geprägt.

Die slawischen Vorfahren haben über die Jahrhunderte zur Entwicklung der Zivilgesellschaften des heutigen Europas beigetragen. Seit dem 7. Jahrhundert lassen sich slawische Stämme nachweisen, gibt es Zeugnisse kriegerischer Auseinandersetzungen und heidnischer Gottesanbetungen. Wie haben sich die Slawen ohne feste Landesgrenzen über Jahrhunderte entwickeln, ihre Bräuche, Religionen und Kulturen pflegen und vieles davon letztlich bis heute bewahren können?

Die Dokumentation begleitet eine Gruppe von Slawen zwischen Elbe und Oder durch die Jahrhunderte, folgt ihnen in diverse Scharmützel, beobachtet ihre Bräuche und Riten und zeiget ihr Überlebensgeschick und ihren Kampf um eine eigene Identität vor dem Hintergrund großer historischer Umbrüche.

I took these incredible shots while accompanying whale researchers who are doing excellent work in helping whales by tagging, cataloging, and studying the killer whales in Antarctica. (Viewing in HD recommended) Arrows are used to attach GPS based location tags to the dorsal fins and as you can see the whales do not react to it. I imagine its similar to a human getting their ears pieced. Tags stay in place for about a month before falling off and help track the whales migration patterns. Biopsy arrows on the other hand collect a tiny sample of blubber on the hollow tip of the arrow to help scientists determine their nutrition, health and diet. Every arrow used is accounted for under strict permits and regulations.

This research has shown the population of the Ross Sea whales are declining. They normally feed off the Antarctic Toothfish which is a large fish which has been over-harvested by commercial fishing. However, during this filming, these whales were seen feeding off a very small fish, the bourke fish as the toothfish were no longer present. For the whales to be expending all the energy just to hunt for bourke fish is like us hunting for a single grain of rice. Lastly, it seems a lot of Youtube whale experts think the whales are stuck in the ice. They are not. They are in one of many holes in the lead and we are very close to the open sea.
