1990 год. Закончив военное училище, два друга, Алексей и Саша полны надежд и планов. Алексей планирует жениться на Ане, Саша собирается писать диссертацию. Но судьба распоряжается по-своему. По пути в ЗАГС Алексей становится свидетелем ограбления Сберкассы. Решив в одиночку задержать преступников, он сам попадает под подозрение. Представители правоохранительных органов, как оказалось, сами имевшие отношение к этому ограблению, «назначают» виновным Алексея. Он получает 6 лет тюрьмы. Аня решает ждать любимого, в тяжелой ситуации ее поддерживает друг Алексея — Саша, давно и безнадежно влюбленный в Аню. Аня ездит к Леше на свидания на зону. Однажды она узнает, что у молодого человека на зоне роман с медсестрой. Не в силах простить обиды, она моментально принимает решение. Аня сама делает предложение Саше, он, конечно же, не может сказать «нет». 1994 год. Дело Леши пересмотрено, он выходит на свободу, сразу направляется к Ане. Придя к ней, он узнает, что она вышла замуж за Сашу, у них растет дочь. Теперь Алексея ничего не держит. Он принимает предложение работать на одну из бандитских группировок.
